raddoc, I remember you mentioning that Pro-tone did your bathroom(s) renovation. Did they do painting of walls in your apartment as well? Did Pro-tone replace any closet doors for you?

I want to add a sliding door to separate my office space in my apt. The opening is about 6ft wide and 9ft tall. Anyone know what this might cost and can recommend someone? Thanks.

Lobster,

I haven't seen this thread for a while. Pro-Tone did our prep, painting and multiple custom solid wood doors. Renovation was 4 years ago and all has held up perfectly.

Thestreet,

It is impossible to give you a price without knowing what type of hardware and door you want.

Raydoor is good, but I believe they have a height limitation, which the 9' might exceeds.

from raydoor website

"We specialize in the design and manufacture of beautiful custom translucent interior dividing systems.
Most of our systems do not require floor tracks. We can build any size system under 10' high."

We are doing this right now. We purchased 4 of the Ikea Pax Lyngdal doors and a track from metropolitan lumber and have HFM Builders coming in next week. The price for the install is ~$1500. Will let you know how it goes. (definitely a more economical option compared to raydoor or the sliding door company).

WBurgNewbie, how did it go? What's your total cost? Just curious, how much of a price difference is it as compared to the quotes you got from Raydoor or Sliding Door Company?

Can you see the Ikea Pax Lyngadal doors being use as closet doors too? Thanks.

All door installs can be complicated by openings that aren't square and sliding doors can be challenged by be floors that aren't level. A source like the Sliding Door Co. offers a one-stop solution, from assistance with design choices to a dedicated door contractor that is professional and will insure against measurement mistakes or imperfect building conditions. The small premium you pay is worth it for custom doors and expert installation.

Does the installation of a pocket door qualify as removing a wall & would therefore require and ALT-2 permit?
