i know its months away, but im a planner.. doormen super porter i know is cash is king, but say there's only one king, me.. my colleague suggested each a decent bottle of wine wrapped up. assuming no one has a problem with drinking that seems legit.
No, no, and no.
The only thing that will make them not HATE YOU literally is an EASILY redeemable gift certificate to something so widely used they have to be able to use it. But even a starbucks or target card will make them loathe you. An AMEX gift card is as non-cash as I would go.
Cash only ... Amex gift cards are gifts to Amex, because so many people don't get around to using them and the balance declines with time -- to zero.
There's more than one king. Any Latino will tell you there are Three Kings. Their names, in Spanish, are Doormen, Super, Porter.
why hol4? why would you go out of your way to give them a non-cash gift when you know they just want cash?
I use Amex gift card generically, but no not all cash cards fade to zero. And you can use an Amex (or any other similar kind) pretty much anywhere these days.
But I obviously agree that to even contemplate not giving cash is incredible weird, perhaps retarded. Its MUCH LESS HASSLE to go to the ATM, or write a personal check.
oh cmooonnnn is everyone here a union worker all of a sudden? how about tickets to AC Borgata, or a book of value coupons?
Crane Lake wine.
Why don't you just give them a fruitcake while you're at it?
or ear warmers
The only way one could "get away" (except Matt's bldg) with non-cash gifts is if:
1) you are elderly
2) you are truly hurting for cash (if you can buy bottles of wine, it doesn't apply to you) and your bldg staff
will KNOW if you are
Better to give $5, $10, $20 rather than non-cash
they really do like those ear warmers..

how much is it to bedazzle an ear warmer.. i want to make them know theyre special
Non cash gifts are appropriate for random "thank yous". Cash is always more appropriate for holidays since doormen, porters and supers are not exactly rolling in dough.
How about giving your doorman a nice comfortable chair?
Someone's been watching Seinfeld re-runs.
movie theater gift cards?
lottery tickets.
