Discussion about
I am very pleased with Obama's decision to appoint Dr. Berwick to head Medicare and Medicaid. He is completely correct when he stated "any healthcare funding plan that is just must redistribute wealth,” There is simply no room for capitalism when it comes to peoples' lives, because we all know that profits take precedence over quality of care.

Easy in theory. When money can't buy you good healthcare, some other pecking system will replace it, and it won't be to your liking either.

socialist- your thought processes are unclear. Did you mean that there is no place for profit at health care thus only allowing non profit to provide insurance? did you mean that physicians should work for the non profit insurers? non profit hospitals? government? what are you advocating for.If I pay hundreds of thousands in taxes and get nothing in return, have we accomplished your goal by now?

And pundits wonder why libertarianism is gaining ground.

Liberianism is gaining no ground at all ... just a little press, and most of that in obscure corners of the intertubes.

Socialist is right even though I do not agree with Obama's decision on the international level.
I would agree to earn LESS if my CEO,SVP,,etc would also agree to earn less and distribute their wealth. I am for capitalism but not for Feudalism with princes and kings, which what are CEO'S nowadays. Can someone explain me why everybody agree to earn 10% or much less than his CEO??
What's the deal? are we back to the middle ages whith Serfs and Masters?

Hello!!! Socialist is a %100 right. all the healthcare companies don't care about your health, they care about making profits. When private companies are vested with your health they will care about the bottom line before they care about your health.
Health is one of the areas that cannot be in private hands.

Socialist is a weakling who deals in half measures. Not until all the capitalist pigs are hanging from lampposts will there be freedom and equality in this great country. Down with socialists, they should be the first ones to go.

Why is it that so few people understand the value of good leadership? Have people not seen enough examples of the cost of bad leadership?

HA HA HA. Libertarians are outnumbered by 9/11 truthers, birthers, and virtually every single fringe group you can think of.

What we have now is essentially CRONY capitalism. It's a great suystem: You get the worst of capitalism and the worst of socialism all bundled up in one nice package.

Fine government confiscates some guys savings and redistributes it. Some call that stealing, but did it really solve anything?

Ask the Greeks, Italians, Spanish and other failing countries in Europe how well socialism is working. I also hear it is working well for the French. Idiots!

Depends on who that "some guy" is. Is it Joe Sixpack or LeBron James?

Ask the Greeks, Romans, Holy Romans and other failing empires in Europe how well capitalism is working. I also hear it working well for the Visigoths. Dumdums!

alan needs to repeat the 5th grade. The Roman empire was a military dictatorship when it declined. Which other European empire did you consider capitalist? The Austro-Hungarian monarchy? The Ottomans?

Do you ever get tired of posting dumb things?

downtown1234.....fully agree on socialism in Europe! The proof is there....it doesn't work. Everyone is a follower, there are no leaders!

Ask the socialist doctors in Italy who will see you in six months to one year BUT if you pay privately they will see you in a day or two! They are finally starting to think on their own.

Sad how people are lead down the path just like poor little sheep by a very shrewd and cunning individual we now have as president, who by the way will only get richer and richer!!

There you go again.. equating Socialism with Communism. They are NOT the same thing. And I certainly do not support Communism at all.

The gentleman is not speaking of redistribution of wealth but rather a greater degree of progressive taxation. This does nothing to make the wealthy less wealthy. It simply makes it harder for people who are aspiring to wealth and willing to make the effort through hard work. And that will hurt us all. We'll also have less hiring, hurting the very people that Dr. Berwick intends to help out.

Rising tax rates could be good for real estate by increasing the value of the mortgage tax deduction. Investor properites may also become more attractive since the rich could depreciate the property against the income it produces. Lower tax rates would have the opposite effect by encouraging liquidation of property and assets.
