Discussion about
We are building a single family home in Manhattan. It will be a completely green building - solar power, water saving etc. Does anyone know where to find all the potential write offs offered by NY State and possibly Federal? Most of the resources we have found are for developers of multi-family dwellings - i.e. large buildings.

NYSERDA.org is, indeed, the place to check out.

As an fyi, the American Solar Energy Association hosts green house tours (including NYC) throughout the country the first weekend in October. You might want to check it out - pretty fascinating things taking place - even in NYC.

Also, suggest you check out greenbuildingsnyc.com.

(At the moment I just have a couple of solar panels up on my roof along with a solar-powered fountain on my deck as well as lighting. But do have more grandiose plans for the future!)

Also, don't spend extra on green things just because of the tax credits. Even with them, you may possibly never recover the added costs, depending on how long you own the house for.

Exactly. The economics are frequently still not there. Regardless, there are still many things one does in life that don't make economic sense - but are still rewarding in their own way.
