Is glass removal from wall DIY?

Discussion about
...floor to ceiling glass panes align wall sharing neighbors. since building is pre-war I'm guessing cement wall as opposed to plywall? how hard is it for me to remove (lightly smash) the glass pieces and repaint the assumed mess behind the glass? will the glue be a huge mess?? how much would something like this run? glass is about 14 ft. long by about 10 ft.. thanks

Assuming by "Align" you mean "line." By which I assume you mean cover.

You'll be sorry if you DIY this. Ask the super for help, at the very least. Some of the companies that install this sort of glass (usually mirror) also uninstall it. They carry the right solvents for the glue.

The backing of the glass is glued to the wall material. That glue will take a nuclear-powered jackhammer to remove, and will take pieces of wall with it, if you do it the way you describe.

If you are for some reason dead set on DIYing this, buy 1/4" sheetrock and lay it over the glass instead. It's almost as dumb, but safer and cheaper.

thanks, good point about laying sheet rock over it.. but i lose 1" of valuable space! any decent glass removal men in the area? (UWS)

Which is why I suggested 1/4" sheetrock.

But really I'm suggesting looking in the Manhattan Yellow Pages under Glass.
