One of the dumbest purchases I have ever seen!!
This couple (the Prokops) has deluded themselves into thinking they got away with something. While there is nothing intrinsically wrong with Morningside Heights (it's very nice actually), it's practically an outer burrough as it's so far from the "action" that is Manhattan.
Second, 175 square feet, while doable for a single person, is a nauseating concept when it is a married couple with 2 indoor cats living there. There is also not closet. This COULD have been something of a deal for a Columbia student (as indeed the listing advertisement suggested), but these 2 suckers didn't realize that they were had when the monthly co-op fee is taken into account (which the listing says is $789). There are several 1 bedrooms in Manhattan that actually have monthly fees under $600; there are also studios in the low-200s; this couple just didn't look very hard.
The other irksome thing about this real estate story was they have done nothing but demonstrate what lousy money managers they are. Their lifestyles (dinner out every night, wardrobes stashed at various laundromats) are indicative of them just being quirky, as in this transaction was not truly NECESSARY but rather a self-amusing impulse purchase.

But what was the prevailing opinion on this? Am I alone in my read because some people had a more positive take on this

People live on smaller boats, and happily travel across oceans. My uncle lives in a van down by the river. Get over it, live and let live.
