Discussion about
Anyone have any idea how much it costs to put in a central air unit in a 1800sqft apartment? Top floor and high ceilings. currently the apartment uses individual window units.

I have the exact same size unit profile and would like to know the answer as well.

so it looks like putting a unit in and doing all the pipe work will cost about $70-80k. I also saw some old postings which seemed to suggest similar amounts. Are there cheaper options - I've read something about split units? anyone?

You'd probably consult your building -- super, managing agent, maybe a board member or two -- to find out what they allow in terms of puncturing the wall, having equipment on the roof, and running tubing/ducting on the exterior of the building (or puncturing the roof for it).

The answer might be "no" all around. That, I think, wouldn't eliminate central A/C, but would greatly limit your options. And split-ductless would be out of possibility.
