Discussion about
Does anyone know approximately how long it takes for a gut renovation to combine 2 apartments? Floors, kitchen, bathrooms. Top to bottom renovation.

ONCE you have all the decisions made about exactly what you're doing (and don't underestimate that part) maybe 3-5 months.

From signing the architect to completion, about 6-7 months.

I can only speak to my experience but I closed on my apartment in Dec 06 and already had designs ready for submission to the board. Coop board approved after some back and forth in late Jan. City issued construction permits early March. Contractor started April 1st. Slated to move into my apartment October 1st.

This was a gut renovation of a 2,200 sf three bedroom apartment.

I have heard from others my experience is pretty typical if not faster then most have experienced.

All total I am looking at ten months, and I had the architect do a great deal of design before I even closed on my apartment.

Rule of thumb is that a gut reno of my size is at least six months for construction with additional time for design and approvals.
