Discussion about
I have recently identified a number of homes I might be interested in making an offer on. Before doing so, I'd like to do some reseach on the homes using public records. I'm interested in things like actual square footage, liens, variances obtained (or not obtained that should have been) and any other public history about the home. The homes are in Southampton. Can anyone tell me what public office would have such information and how I would go about obtaining those records. Any other advice on doing my due diligence would be appreciated.
try propertyshark.com
Thank you for the info on propertyshark.com. Does anyone know if there's also a place in Southampton Village to look up property information---for instance if I'd like to know who the builder was, zoning violations, etc. I'm sure there must be some municipal center, but I don't know where.
I would assume all county type info will be in Riverhead and town info I think is 116 hampton rd.
you can play around this directory as well

Also, your Realtor has access to public records related to earlier purchases and sales of property.
I feel more comfortable doing my own research. I don't find realtors in the Hamptons to be all that forthcoming!
I think you can just go to the town offices in Southampton. We did as much to find out who owned some farm fields near our house and how they were zoned.
