I'm always hoping to come across a little home furnishings shop or hear of a furniture maker that is relatively undiscovered but sells and/or makes wonderful pieces at reasonable prices.
I have 2 suggestions which may appeal to some of you. Hope to hear other recommendations.
1. O'Lampia, 155 Bowery, Manhattan, www.o'lampia.com
I came across this shop about two years ago while browsing through lighting stores on the Bowery. It's owned by a group of lighting designers who work with you to create a product specific to your requirements. They delivered exactly on time as promised. Not the most modern style of lighting so won't appeal to everyone. They made two sconces for me which came out beautifully. Not inexpensive.
2. Michael Anchin, 51 South 1st Street, Brooklyn
He had a shop in Nolita, but relocated to Williamsburg. Creates handblown glass vases, bowls, lamps. Kind of Murano glass style. Website is michaelanchin.com
