Looking at full service buildings between Braodaway and Sixth Ave, 9th-12th Street. Any suggestions as to what are the best and what to avoid? Want attended lobby, elevator, high occupancy Coop/Condo, no students. Building must be classy, safe and well-run above all else. Price unimportant.
Most of the pre-war buildings with doorman will fit your requirements. Some post-war, 40 E 9th, 2 Fifth, 11 5th, Breevort east are nice too.
In my opinion, my favorite apartment building in the area you are looking is 111 4th Avenue. It's one block east of Bdwy (btwn 11th & 12th), so even though it is not exactly in your parameters, I would look there anyway. Amazingly well-run building. Be aware however, there is some talk of possibly reversing the "no-dogs" policy, so I would check in to that if that is a concern. Overall, 111 4th Avenue is a terrific building with a terrific building staff. Unlike most full-service buildings, there is always someone from maintenance around until midnight I believe... The maintenance staff doesn't disappear at 5pm. Highly recommend this building. I'm not a broker, just someone who is very familiar with this building and really loves it.
Also, as per your requirements, 111 is full-service, attended lobby, elevator, classy, VERY safe, extremely well-run, and does not allow students.
And, you should definitely look into 37 West 12th if you haven't already. Good luck with your search.
Regarding 37 W 12... I have never lived there or known anyone who has, so I can't speak from first-hand experience, but the building has an EXCELLENT reputation. I love the aesthetics of the exterior, and I enjoy walking by this building (the little fountain in the front is very peaceful).
