Discussion about
Close to signing a lease in the building. Anyone familiar with the building? Also, neighborhood seemed fine few times I visited, but would appreciate any feedback on area ( late night safety, etc). Thanks .
The neighborhood is super safe.
We lived at the Melar last year for 12 months while doing a nearby coop renovation. Staff is stellar, building is beautifully maintained, management is excellent and good to their word, and we loved the on-site gym. And as for the "little" things -- the building is spotlessly clean, there's always hot water, we never heard a bit of noise from any neighbor, and the neighborhood is wonderful and to our experience, completely safe, including coming home late at night. The rare times we needed a repair, the staff was immediately responsive; loved the building's email package alerts and delivery announcements. The neighborhood has good food shopping, there's a Greenmarket on Friday mornings on W. 97th and Amsterdam, Whole Foods is on Columbus and 97th, the Pan Europa is open 24/7, and the Korean market across the street on the corner of W. 93rd St. has excellent produce. There are good dry cleaners and fabulous transportation since you're adjacent to the 96th Street express stop. Can't say a single negative thing about the building or the neighborhood. Enjoy your time there and take good care of the staff and they'll take care of you.
A clarification to my previous post: What I meant by "take good care of the staff" was not $$ but instead be friendly. They are a wonderful bunch of guys who really look out for the people who live there.
