Discussion about 500 E 83rd Street #5GH
I heard that this apartment was not a real 4 bedrooms but two bedrooms apartment and two bathrooms combined into one. They transformed one of the kitchens into a small 4th bedroom. I noticed that sellers are trying to transform an old bathroom, an "L" shape living room, or a kitchen into an extra bedroom to be able to advertise as a larger apartment. This is a real example of it. Any comments?

It was two 3.5-room apartments. Original plan is at http://www.columbia.edu/cgi-bin/dlo?obj=ldpd_YR_1652_MH_001_002&size=large

It's a pretty standard combo. Here the fourth BR is pretty small, but OK for a kid, and the big H-line foyer is good for storage. They couldn't combine the kitchens because of the plumbing wall between them.

It's the cheapest way to get four bedrooms. A "real" four-bedroom would have more than two baths, and the LR/DR/kitchen would be to a larger scale.
