ar, 1) using social media takes time, so it's certainly not "free"

2) this site makes money by charging advertisers based on its traffic. Therefore everyone - from brokers to non-brokers -- who contributes to threads which increase traffic, is, by their micro-labor, making money for this site.

3) you work for a site which frequently aggregates comment from this board (including mine) and then charges advertisers for traffic based on that content. Surely you're doing that because you feel "free" to repost those comments; otherwise you're stealing.

You can't have it both ways.

by reposting information and providing the link to the material (critical) i am also increasing traffic to the site i am using.

i think there is a distinction, and i think you know it.

so i ask you again, do you think this board should become a broker free-for-all? and independent of whether or not it was "free" do you think this thread served the interests of the client?

and do you really think traffic will go up if it becomes littered with broker advertisements and the SE community quietly and politely sits by?

Ali, that SE makes money on advertising should be a clear enough sign that it's not appropriate to shill in the "talk" section. Not for renovation or architectural services, not for window treatments, etc. ... but certainly not for the very service (property sales/rentals) that SE offers fee-based ad for.

And it's sort of ridiculous to equate the opinion of a disinterested party with the opinion of a salesperson, who between self-interest and both real (REBNY and brokerage rules) and implicit (business sense) will not air his full range of true opinions regarding the real estate business and market overall, let a lone a particular property that he represents.

Anyway, I'll see all of you at the big Streeteasy meetup/drunkfest this Sunday afternoon at 401 East 60th St Apt.4ABC ... I'll bring a bucket or two of sidecars in case the House doesn't provide enough wine.

Somehow I've gotten myself in the position of defending this particular OP -- and it's not my listing, and it's not my pricing, so I'll stop.

But as to the idea of "disinterested" -- I check in with the SE staff pretty consistently throughout the year, and if anything they've expressed happiness that "talk" has brought me clients.

I can further note that many of the posters on this site aren't disinterested either; they just want to pee on a property or the market in general.

and AR, I don't think traffic will go up if this site boils down to a hard-core bunch of meanies, either. My point is, it works well as a mosaic of lots of different, hopefully civilly communicated views.

& LOL about the sidecars, AH, well said.

Okay guys and gals, mission accomplished, this listing is getting terrific web traffic, thanks for helping out, I hope you all watch in this Sunday as it airs nationally, on Taxi-TV , and on WCBS-TV Ch.4 at 8:30 AM

All of your comments were very very amusing, unfortunately I can't be glued to computer like the "streeteasy-rati" otherwise I can play verbal jujitsu all day for fun, and ridicule, and joke around.

Feel free to continue the thread, I'll come back and check periodically.

Cheers

LoL you guys are like a court Jesters, this feels more like an early 90's AOL chat room rather than RE discussion board, I don't mind low blows and lot shots, but the IQ of the conversation is dropping like a broken balloon.

But I still like you guys, even though you hide behind aliases and post 'just to post'

Is "how not to overdecorate for the holidays" the sort of thing you'd prefer to see more of, and, as you say, to raise the IQ of the conversation? Personally I loved it but still have nagging doubts about pine vs. holly.

The internet is a harsh place. Why would you start a discussion about your listing here? That isn't advertising, that's masochism. The funny thing is that your Elliman profile discusses how you convince FSBOs of their errant ways (why you would describe that is another baffling question) but here you are committing an error of a novice FSBO.

report abuse "We are all entitled to our opinion, I respect yours, I do feel the Bridge Tower is much more central than the 70's 80's and 90's, "

Surprise, surprise, a broker who doesn't know what they are talking about.

"central" means toward the center. If the UES represents the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 70/80 would be the center. 60th would be the edge. Second, the UES goes from 5th to 1st/york. How on earth could the blocks between first and york be the "central" either. You are talking a massive, MASSIVE hike over from the subway lines.

You are entitled to your opinions, but mistakes are just mistakes.

I actually used to live right around there, and really, really, really east 60s just suck. Cut off, all the bridge ramps cut a lot of blocks off, 2nd avenue in the 60s is a parking lot that is hard to cross even weekends. This to me is by far the worst part of the UES.

if you used to live nearby, how do you not know that the 4,5,6,n,r,w station on THIRD ave and 59th street is only two avenues away. is that really a massive hike? its closer than the subway woule be if you lived on 5th ave and 80th st.

Speaking of air. Can you go fking measure the volume of the apt. If I'm gonna pay $4.5mm on 1st ave pos, I'd like to know if the 8foot ceiling is for 99% of the apt and the 9.5 foot ceiling for 1% where they bought out the hallway space. I mean it's relevant. None of this bullshit oh 8 to 12 foot in places! Btw there is a soho apt with 14 ceilings 4000 sq ft for little less than you are asking. Flmaoz. Now that IS central not next to a tram to your work at Roosevelt island. Or a short train ride to lic. Flmaoz.

Ali....."Somehow I've gotten myself in the position of defending this particular OP and it's not my listing, and it's not my pricing, so I'll stop".

Ali... You're being challenged for defending the OP's blatant self promotion and inappropriate advertising in this forum, not for defending the listing or the pricing.

Suggesting that the "Old Club" are "A hard-corer bunch of meanies" really misses the point entirely.

As Alan said.

"Ali, that SE makes money on advertising should be a clear enough sign that it's not appropriate to shill in the "talk" section. Not for renovation or architectural services, not for window treatments, etc. ... but certainly not for the very service (property sales/rentals) that SE offers fee-based ad for."

There are many brokers on this forum who add value without promoting their business or listings.

I was surprised that you either missed this point or have changed your mind.

Could also buy 16a and 19a both currently available. At that height the A line is 1500 sq ft each.
Wait for 17a and 18a to become available (heck, they're the only A line units that haven't been for sale in the last 2 years) and you could have an 8 bed 8 bath 6000 sq ft townhouse in the sky, and fly the bird to those tram commuters as they're wondering what's that on your dinner table.

It's like old timer's day at a Hells Angles' convention where bacodari is just some amicable 'sub' pleading for a beating.
The should be named 'If I spank you will you say thank you?'

bacodari, you're a good sport and I wish you lots of luck with this property.
SE threads as a sales tool is a going to be dicey, at best. I would recommend mediums where there is limited feed back from the piranhas of RE.

And Tina, also not around anymore.

But that there are so few great broker-posters here is sort of proof that most brokers are not so great -- either stupid or lazy or singularly self-serving. And those are the ones who get instant abuse from lots of posters. You, only from one poster I can think of, and I sort of assume he's merely testing you.

I still think SE's talk board is a very friendly place for those very few brokers who add valuable insight, and resist using the site as a billboard to slop wheatpaste over and squeegee a poster (the paper kind, virtually) on top of the others.

What do you expect? Brokers are all jerks, uneducated and lazy. Buyers are all over-optimistic lemmings. Sellers are all greedy and should have sold 7 years ago. Landlords should be thankful for their tenants and should fix the toilet seat yesterday.

No one wins on streeteasy except those obsessed with real estate but with no ownership, no interest in buying who can sit an endlessly criticize because they have no personal responsibilities. We even have someone here who endlessly criticizes people for "endlessly criticizing".

Agreed, the SE general forum has become a bit of an inbred fiasco. What seems to be working, however, are the building specific threads where new buyers are left to wallow in their gushing enthusiasm and collective miseries. I wish I felt more free to express the love I have for my cool closet apartment and my tree trunk view, but every time I try the frigidaire farm people surface and get me all confused about my decision, and the stupid price of gold relative to the A&P. I mean I have made my decision and doubt I can back out of it now because of some after the fact advice I got from SE batman pajamas living in moms basement in Queens. I might just move over to be@schumerhorn or whatever it's called and see if maybe I can find some free love there. Or the edge at 9inetyith and 9inth or 4orty 5ifth or something cool like that.

interesting juiceman, i never quite thought of you from that perspective. but obviously you have anger issues. I know because I have a Bachelor's degree in psychology from Yale that the taxpayers paid for. I also haven't been in the workforce for more than 20 years. My husband's father died this summer and I continued vacationing on Rome because it was a month since my prior vacation. I grew up in a trailer trash environment and I hate my late father and I'm willing to talk about that on streeteasy. You readers are responsible for my child's asthma and my mother's cancer. I repost streeteasy articles on another real estate blog site, but when it comes to the purity of streeteasy, I'm out with my fangs and long nails to keep it pure. I have a market rate lease but I still want to sue my landlord and get treble damages. I sold my apartment 3 years before the market peak so I still want to make fun of anyone selling today who might still have made more money than me by holding until today and not having to pay rent. I do nothing all day, don't volunteer for anyone, don't do anything productive, don't support my husband, and frequently remind my husband that I own half of his degree. Oh, and farewell. Please make a big deal of me leaving. Because I won't be back. Really.

Two taxis in a row refused to take me that far from the central part of the Upper East Side. So I was stuck with a couple of buckets of sidecars and nothing to do, except go to all the restaurants, cultural institutions, and other fun places in the City. I was almost glad to stay in Manhattan and not go to 401 East 60th. And they say the Staycation is dead.

Isn't there a rule about not owning the most expensive apartment in a building?

When it's on a low floor?

I can't believe that the lucky owners of this $4 billion property would want to associate with others who have only paid $1 billion.

Someday, the subway will be nearby. (But there's an animal shelter close, if you feel lonely with all that space, and your personal groomer is bored.)

I'm gonna spray paint a line down Lex, that is where MANHATTAN ends on East 60 and where LIC begins.

Hey this listing might be "more" central....

Wow, you guys have gone from trashing a broker to trashing everyone that chooses to live in a particular building / particular area that you either don't care for or, more likely, have never spent any time in. The building is gorgeous, the staff is great, the amenities are solid (how many of you live in buildings with free gyms w/ DirectTV on each machine?), and the cross streets are generally pretty quiet. It's not 2nd Ave by the bridge which is like night and day. That is like saying you shouldn't live anywhere in the 60's on the Westside unless you like the housing projects. See how silly that sounds?

Yes, it's a bit far from the subway, but realistically it's about a 6 minute walk and you can pick up the 4,5,6,N,R,Q or F there. It's not exactly 86th and East End.

Nothing says classy like directtv to your treadmill. I was about to pay only $5k for a 10 foot dinghy, until the seller showed me you can get direct tv installed for $2k. Boy am I glad I paid $20k for that dinghy.

Wow, w67. Used to think you were funny. Until today. Don't anymore. How about that?

You are right, amenities are stupid. That is why all the high end apartment buildings these days are installing treadmills that look out on to brick walls.

You are taking one overpriced apt and using that to slam a whole building and neighborhood. FLMAOZ (to use one of your acronyms that makes about as much sense as your thought process) at you.......

come on racerdave... if you planted carrots in the garden and a rabbit ate it, would you be angry at the rabbit for doing what it does best?

Come on give me a bro hug and let's race around central park... I just got a new cannondale....

This thread proves the theory that an endorsement from the SE crowd is pure gold. Pure gold Jerry, pure gold.

Oh and I see my nabe pick at 244 E 62nd went to contract while we were waiting.

As Olbermann might have said it is now 4 months since Badodari declared "Mission Accomplished" at 401 East 60th Street.
