Discussion about
Hi, we live in a ~40 year old Co-op in Manhattan. Since we moved in 2 1/2 years ago we have had a series of electrical issues. 1) Cooking range's auto ignition failed 2) Microwave failed 3) Refrigerator ice-maker failed 4) Bulbs fuse on average once every two weeks 5) New Coffee maker failed within 3 weeks of purchase Any ideas on what might be causing this? Old wiring? Interference with something else? Faulty Junction box? a poltergeist? Any elegant solutions short of actually rewiring the whole apartment? Shall we call in Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd?

im not afried to do most household wiring, equipped with a tester and some common sense, but yours sounds like a short that your breaker isnt interrupting--sounds like the short is in the kitchen--try changing the breaker that feeds those outlets--otherwise it's elestrician time for sure

"not afried" woops

You might have too many outlets on one breaker, or not enough power for it.

If you were my neighbor, I would be very afried if you wanted to do electrical yourself. Call an electrician so you don't have a fire & inconvenience a lot of people. If you want to do it yourself, build a bookshelf.
