Discussion about
Scobee Diner, a Little Neck landmark for more than 40 years, will close its doors at the end of the month. The owners decided to close after receiving notice that their landlord had doubled their rent, a source with knowledge of the negotiations said. http://douglaston.patch.com/articles/scobee-diner-to-close-2

"It's a sad day for the diner culture in Queens," said Erica Manney on the closing of one of Little Neck's longest-running dining establishments.

We are in a worldwide recession/depression, we have a multitude of other wide-ranging problems and you are posting something about the "diner culture in Queens" (which must an incredibly short story, by the way)? Who cares?

Riversider:

My parents and I used to frequently eat at the Seville on Northern Blvd. just east of the
Cross-Island years ago. At some point is also closed for insufficient traffic.

A similar event occurred about one year ago involving a restaurant at the NE corner of 79th
and 1st in Manhattan. Ultra long-term tenant. Site sat vacant for many months, has since
rented to a different restaurant. I dont now if the rent is higher or by how much.

The economy being what it is makes you wonder about the wisdom of landlords dumping long-
term tenants that were reliable payers. It doesnt always work out for the LL.

In place of Scobee which was a beloved, unpretentious, inexpensive, 'everybody-knows-your-name' neighborhood greasy spoon, will open a branch of TD Bank. All glory to the Banksters!
