Discussion about
My landlord keeps sending notices to the building residents saying if people don't follow their various silly rules they will start imposing fines. The lease says the LL can impose fines for breaking the rules. Anybody know if such a clause is enforcable?

You need to speak to a lawyer on the specifics.
It's not enforceable if it's not legal no matter what is on the lease.

Talk to your attorney, of course, but I assume you signed the lease so you in fact agreed to the LL levying fines, no? Duh . . .

if the rules they are fining you for breaking are not legal and enforcable, the fine is not legal either

drdrd, many leases have terms that are illegal. the one we signed with MetLife was a joke. 23 pages long, IIRC, filled with unenforceable nonsense. i kept looking at the attorney husband as i read and initialed each page, he just said keep signing, it can't be enforced.

I think everyone is saying the same exact thing every way possible..."Whatever the law allows is enforceable....cue.....get attorney opinion on the specific rules and their legality."

or

the most intelligent advice by gcondo..."you could just follow the rules"
