Discussion about
Can we expect a rental agent to reduce his/her fee since we do not have a buyer's agent? If so, how much is reasonable?

there is no buyer/seller in a rental situation. the agent fee for rental are always negotiable. will they negotiate is a different story.

I paid half the rental fee because I came without a buyer's agent. I felt I deserved the fee that the agent would have given to the buyers agent because I did all the work and the agent was even asking questions of my lawyer. However that was in Feb when rentals were sitting longer. Also, be careful of the timing how you work out the terms with the agent. Otherwise, your offer may never make it to the owner.

Take a look at this rental guide to renting an apartment on your own without a broker. It's called "The Essential Guide for Smart Renters" or something like that. http://www.RDNY.com/rentingguide
