Discussion about
I am looking for a place in the village that I could move into around 08/20/11 in anticipation of school starting a few days later.I am completely ignorant of how finding a place in NYC works os how far in advance do I start searching? Also, if I wanted to enlist a broker, how much do they typically charge?

Hi NYUbound,

For renters it is usually a good idea to get your financial documents in order first and then start looking for a place to live 1-2 weeks before you are planning to move. The rental market turns over very fast and you have to grab something if you like it. Brokers charge anywhere from $0 up to a percentage of the yearly rent. The percentage varies by the brokerage.
I'd be happy to help you find a place to live this fall. Don't hesitate to give us a call. Email me with any other questions you might have about renting in NYC.
