Discussion about
Cuomo pitches billions in health, education cuts - Governor insists on ending so-called “millionaire's tax,” leading to howls from unions that could see 10,000 layoffs if they don't give up raises and some benefits. :: http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20110201/FREE/110209983

That's bullshit! Just rise State taxes on people earning over $250K a year!

Here's another option! Create a "visitor tax" collected by Airlines upon any visitors flying to NY .

"Governor insists on ending so-called “millionaire's tax,”

In other words, Cuomo is not serious about cutting the deficit.

Cuomo has been surprisingly good in his start as Governor. He is supporting taxpayers and is not being a shill for blood sucking unions.

According to unions, people making $200,000 per year are "millionaires." Shameless and embarrassing.
The concept of working for your pay and benefits is foreign to unions. They believe people should be able to retire young and still get paid by everyone else for the rest of their lives.

And Cuomo's budget calls for an indirect tax increase on virtually everyone in NYC. By cutting funding to the MTA, there will be draconian service cuts and fare hikes. Oh, I know, fare hiles are not tax increases...

Blood sucking Albany blow hards...
Cut $$$$$$ for schools! "I never allowed school to interfere with my education".-Mark Twain
Cut $$$$$$ for Health Care! Every lazy bastard north of White Plains better get their shit together because the state is kicking your ass out of that emergency room. Medicare, Medicaid...it's all going down! All you're getting is a box of Band-Aids and a rabbits foot.

Go Andrew Go Andrew Go Andrew Go Andrew Go Andrew Go Andrew Go Andrew Go Andrew!

I predict a short honeymoon.

The MTA budget can be cut without service cuts or fare hikes, through MTA union benefit reform and common sense changes to work rules, such as not requiring two workers on a train when one can do the entire job.

Socialism = Failure

The U.S. keeps raising tremendously the amount it spends on education, with zero results to show for it. That tells you that throwing money at teachers unions doesn't improve education.

Socialist - come now, with MTA cuts we will get no trains overnight and rates of $6 a ride. Sort of like.... London. You should be happy, isn't this what socialism looks like?

The hypocrisy.... "lets tax the folks over $200k so we can have more of our people make $200k"

I would not feel safe riding a train with less than 2 unionized workers operating it.

Whose going to look out the window of the train to make sure nobody is being dragged if there is onyl 1 operator? The invisible hand of the free market?

From the WSJ:

"The MTA also said it hopes to win concessions from labor unions to “protect jobs.” The authority enters high-stakes negotiations with its largest union, Transport Workers Union Local 100, later this year."

What the hell is this about? To "protect" jobs? Is this the mob? Do you have to pay the MTA protection money now?

The MTA has no money, yet it was just aunnoced toda that they are considering installing platform screen doors. Where will the money to do this come from if they have no money? Jay Walder's ass?

The other benefit of the visitor tax would also be to motivate NY state resident who do not already have a NY state ID to get one to avoid paying this tax which mean the State would also collect more money through the DMV.

Doesn't a visitor tax violate the interstate commerce clause?

The NY commuter tax was ruled unconstitutional. Why do you hate the Constitution so much?

If NY institutes a visitor tax, other states will retaliate by doing the same.

"I would not feel safe riding a train with less than 2 unionized workers operating it. "

Yeah, who will check text messages without them?

"Whose going to look out the window of the train to make sure nobody is being dragged if there is onyl 1 operator? The invisible hand of the free market?"

Considering you don't need the one operator... the trains are becoming computer controlled, with the human operator basically doing nothing.

So you have the one employee monitoring. Problem solved.

"What the hell is this about? To "protect" jobs? Is this the mob? Do you have to pay the MTA protection money now?"

Uh, no, its the union holding the city hostage for ransom.

Umm, no they are not. The MTA is still operating trains that date back to the Johnson and Reagan administrations.

OPerating automated traisn systemwide would require billions in upfront costs to upgrade signals, tracks, and trains.
