I love seasons. It was absolutely gorgeous walking around today.

And, yeah, I still find San Franciso clammy most of the year.

It rains less in SF all year long, it has days in the 70s all year long. It's generally never colder than highs in the 50s - and that is COLD for there. All winter long, like most winters, its been 60s and 70s.

But some dummy who went in July when it was 80 and humid in NYC to LA where it was 85 and dry was freaked because it was 65 and foggy in July in SF. And thus concluded that ALL YEAR ROUND IT MUST BE COLD AND DAMP. Whereas people like me who lived there for years know its 85 and dry September, October, November, and then back to the high 60s low 70s for Dec-May, then foggy for the summer, then back again.

NEVER as hot and humid as NYC. Never snowy. I never owned AC until I lived on the East Coast. I used to turn on the heater maybe 20 days a year. Never owned a sweater or gloves or a wool or cashmere hat until here.

jason, how is it that Detroit has more people than San Francisco? is it because the census takers lose people in the fog? "Damn, he was just there."

What will we have to teach SteveF next?

Steve, look at a map of san francisco. See, its a peninsula? The size is limited.

The size of Manhattan was once limited too. Until they built Battery Park City:

Springtime in San Francisco is beautiful. Problem is that it's likely to be 55 degrees, cloudy and windy in much of San Francisco during the SUMMER. Bring your parka if visiting in August. It does warm up during the day (to mid 70s) for about a month starting mid-September. That's the extent of a real summer. If you really want near-perfect weather in Bay Area for much of the year, you have to leave SF and cross the bridges or drive down the peninsula.

It's not 55 in the summer lying asshole. Any meteorological site wil tell you it averages 64-71 F from May-Aug, with +/- 10% INTRA-city differential due to the hill-induced micro climates. As in it will be 63 degrees and foggy in the touristy Fishermans Wharf at the EXACT same moment it's 70 at the baseball stadium and 77 in Noe Valley. It's like that all over the bay area. half moon bay is always colder than San Mateo, which is colder than San Jose, which is colder than Danville. But Sausilto or Alemeda won't be as warm as 24th and Castro in
SF.

"I've heard that San Francisco is cold and it's damp, and thus hateable."

And yet it rains literally 2X as much in NYC every year, in addition to the NYC snow. And the average low for SF is between 46-56 all12 moths of the year. LOW.

New York is much colder 5 months of the year, and much wetter 12 out of 12 months of the year. Plus its more humid in the summer.

Ssheesssh - insult San Francisco and you'd think you insulted jason's mother!!!

And yes, Jason, I have been in San Francisco many times in the summer, and YES, it's cold. You can always tell the tourists because they're the ones shivering in light summer clothing. The natives are the ones with jackets and sweaters.

Even when and if the San Francisco temperature gets as "high" as 70 in the summer, it's only for about two hours a day, three if you're lucky. There's a large swath of San Francisco where you can literally set your clock to the 3 o'clock tsunami of fog and chill that will come rolling in EVERY day during the summer. And some parts of the city literally don't see any sun whatsoever for weeks at a time during the summer. But summer is quite nice in the Bay Area once you drive out of SF in any direction.

jason: You could have had to move to a city much colder/blizzardier in winter than N.Y.C...

Don't watch TMZ jason, because the footage of the beach action will really make you homesick on a cold winter N.Y. day.

Ever check out the Tonga Tonga Room at The Fairmont in Nob Hill ,anybody? Fun time there!

High school prom dinner at the Tonga Room. And they served us alcohol!

Obviously I went to HS in San Mateo where it's always ten degrees warmer than the touristy parts of SF - but when Iived in SF proper as an adult I did NOT LIVE in the cold parts.
