Discussion about 109 Gold Street in Vinegar Hill
According to a map. it's Vinegar Hill.
Definitely Vinegar Hill. Should trade at a significant discount to Dumbo proper (grittier, close to projects and power plant, decent walk to most amenities), but has it's own charms. On a nice weekend day grab bunch at Vinegar Hill House and enjoy the stroll (check out the Commodore's House at Evans and Little Streets).
This is a nice project but it sits right in front of the projects. Every apartment either looks at the projects or the publci school next door. Nice looking project in just about the worst location. You would have to take you life in your own hands everytime you go to 109 Gold St. My frend who lives around the corner from 109 Gold St said that those projects are like the worst in NYC. I would rather live in Bed-Stuy.
anyone know the name of the housing project by here? why is it the worst in NYC?? that's a strong statement. I would be curious to know the crime activity within the past few years. I know there a lot of new condos going up here and right next to 109 is another nice building with rentals.
I believe the projects are the Farragut Houses. You can check the Comstat police reports for crime stats in the area.
Here is an interesting article from Feb 2011 pointing out the disparity between the Farragut Houses and the Vinegar Hill/Dumbo area

Does anyone know why several units suddenly became "Unavailable" last week? Are they off the market, going to rental, etc.?
The entire project is being marketed for sale by massey knakal for sale i assume with the intention of the purchaser taking it rental. This building is by far the absolute worst location you could ask for in vinegar hill. They had priced the units pretty well by i think anyone going to the open houses was immediately deterred by the fact that farragut is literally just a few steps across the street

Thanks. I think you're right, as they couldn't possibly have sold all those units marked "unavailable" in one weekend. I liked the project a lot, and even liked the out-of-the-wayness of Vinegar Hill (I've lived in Manhattan for 30 years and welcome a change) but I guess the Farragut Houses is a deterrent.
