Discussion about
Anyone know how to push IR signals over CAT5? Haven't been able to find a good kit for that. I want to hide my cable box and apple tv in the coat closet. Thanks
i have no idea what you mean by pushing over CAT5 but if you want an RF remote that has IR repeaters, you should check out OSIRIS. A pain in the ass to program but once that's done it works like a champ. IR sensors are placed very close to devices you want to control and hide; it includes a small plug in RF antennae that can also be hidden but has a greater range if exposed.
Something like this?

Not sure if they still sell it but radio shack sold a retransmitter that at least let you place the transmitter a few feet away so that you could have the equip in the closet and the transmitter outside.
There are a lot of these things out there, mostly in a package that lets you transmit HDMI over Cat5 (like this one: http://www.gefen.com/pdf/EXT-HDMIIR-CAT5.pdf).
Since you are solely trying to transmit IR, note that you can simply splice the IR transmitter and receiver into the Cat5 on each side and call it a day. You don't need a device in the mix at all.
Xantech has loads of IR distribution systems...I have their A/V kit which also carries stero L&R over the same CAT5 line: xantech.com/Audio/AVDistribution/DIGI-5/
Depending on how far away your closet is, one or more of these should do the trick:

xantech.com/video/HighDefinition/HDMIDistribution/HDMIC5IR/ (this one uses cat5, and like the suggestion from stlblufan, also carries HDMI over the same line)
Sorry for truncating the web addresses - I'm a new poster here and i guess too many active hyperlinks are considered spam.
