Discussion about
Has anyone had experience with bed bug dog inspections on a prospective rental apartment? Moving in June and want to make sure I choose a bed bug-free rental before signing a lease. Do rental buildings allow a dog inspection? Costs? Company recommendations? Thanks!

they LL will have to tell you in a rider if there is a history. I would say 50% of renters ask this questions among the 1st ones.

As LL though, how do I know you are not bringing bedbugs into my building (now, or at any point in the future)?

Since NY is THE worst affected area in the country with regards to bed bugs, I think LLs should be required to routinely check for bed bugs, not just submit a rider stating history. Bedbugs are difficult to eradicate and need constant inspections.

Ues, why? Who'll pay for it? As Mav says, they come from somewhere, meaning a tenant brings them in.

The LL is only required to disclose bedbugs in the previous year. Bed bugs can turn up anywhere and it's impossible to guarantee a "bed bug free" rental. I've never heard of a landlord allowing a tenant to bring in bed bug dogs before the tenant has actually leased the apt.
