Discussion about Loft 25 at 420 West 25th Street in West Chelsea
I recently saw the ground floor apt for sale. It is a nice space, and faces 24th street side. I am concerned about the projects across the way, even after reading all the comments and reviews on the building. I have not read any recent postings, and would like to hear how the area has cleaned up, security, noise etc. Seems like no matter what price range one is looking in, there is always some downside. it is my life's investment to purchase something of this magnitude, and I don't want to have regret. Can anyone post recent experiences, knowledge regarding Loft25? I would appreciate any feedback, and updated details.

I have some friends in the Heywood which is similarly located but has the advantage of being on well-lit and trafficked 9th Avenue vs 25th street. The projects aren't going away, in fact they are expanding; a new tower is being constructed on the block. That being said, there's a lot of new development in that area creeping north of 24th street on 10th ave and the side streets, as well as a for-profit private school. The overall area is getting nicer, but it remains to be seen whether or not that 25th street block will ever feel safe at night.
Haven't been around there lately but it cant be much better.
Can think of many nights going to Marquee and looking across the street and thinking; Carter apartments, New Jack City, wondering which units had the naked women cutting up the coke.
Very disappointing to hear that more lower income
Housing will be added to the street.
Thanks for your feedback.
for the record, the new building is MIDDLE income housing and I challenge you to differentiate the people who are living there from any other rental building in Chelsea, just like the apartments across ninth ave, these are everyday people and their families. the building is a huge improvement to the neighborhood.
for the record, i have lived on 25th between 9th and 10th for over 4 years, and have never had a problem whatsoever. in fact I love my neighborhood.
Chelseares, or anybody else of course that has comment, I am considering moving into Loft 25 (rental) - my only concern is the mixed views around the neighborhood / safety. Obviously some of the more hyperbolic stuff is just that - hyperbole - but would love your views on the location and any issues you think exist if any.
This building needs to be visited at various times of day and both on weekends and weekdays to properly assess the impact of the neighborhood. I highly recommend you walk 25th St from 10th Ave to 8th Ave during a weekday. It is very different than in the weekday morning when people are commuting to work or even on a weekend morning. During my site visits on weekdays, there are a lot of people loitering on the sidewalks near building and across the street and frequently people sitting on the sidewalk and drinking with cans strewn around them. It was very different than when I looked at places for Sunday open houses when it seems much more professional. I can say I did not feel comfortable and enjoy the walk and therefore do not find this building desirable. Unfortunately, it is hard to see how the neighborhood will materially change in any reasonable time period (10-20years ). The neighboring building is a Public Recreational Center with foot frequent traffic as well during different parts of the day. Perhaps OK for a rental if you won't be around during the day. Makes me very uncomfortable as an owner.
I have lived in Loft25 now for 6 months and have had no issue with the neighborhood at all, and I walk my dog on the block between 10 and 11pm every night. There are no homeless people on the block and there is no more loitering on 25th or the surrounding blocks than anywhere else in the city. Prior to living at Loft 25 I lived in Greenwich Village and I can tell you there are a lot more homeless people, loiterers, and bums there than on 25th street.
