Discussion about
I am moving out of an apartment I sold soon and have a 3-4 month time where I need a place to live in Manhattan. This market seems to be plagued by seedy rental agents who want to make half of their income for the year off of my 4 month sublet. Craigslist is so filled with spam postings by these creeps that it's a waste. Anyone know of any legit resources out there?

New York Times real estate section, you can specify "furnished' as a preference and short term will be in the info for the listing.

They also have a link to "home away" which is this company. http://www.homeaway.com/ Legit, and owners put their own listings/photos/etc. on the site.

short-term rentals are ridiculously expensive. For three months, I'd consider a hotel.

We used Furnished Quarters for a temp rental. They have a lot of apartments around town. Ours was on W58th across from the Time Warner Building. We had a furnished 1 bedroom (telephone, cable and internet included) for 4k a month. At the end they allowed us to go to weekly pro-rated mode so we did not have to end on a full month once our apartment was ready to move into.

My advice: Don't call an agent and tell them you want the apartment they advertised for only a few months. Were it available short-term, the ad would say so.

Use streeteasy and search for the words "summer", "sublet", "furnished", and "temporary". Set up a saved search and look up the results every day. You can get extremely cheap temp places. For example, here's one from last year: 3000 sq ft in Soho, high floor, great light, for $5000:
