Discussion about Waterside Plaza at 30 Waterside Plaza in Kips Bay

As someone who has lived here for over a dozen years at market rent - the buildings still have rent regulated tenants from the Mitchell-lama era - here are the pros I experienced: Pros - Great views - probably unrivaled. - Very quiet, particularly in the high floors - Gym next to the building - Parking - reserved spot for an extra $100pm - great to come and go as needed. - Rent reasonable by Manhattan standards. - Excellent security - no danger of theft or burglaries much less robberies. Cons - Cameras everywhere with management reputed to revel in spying on all tenant movements including inane and inconsequential activities. - Appearance of a military camp with card access required to get in to the building, garage, gym and other areas. - Inflexible and arbitrary management which frequently changes rules for access to health club, lost-key fines, repair and replacement of heating and air-conditioning units. - Despite staying and paying (market) rent on time for over a dozen years, management refused to upgrade bathrooms, kitchen and floor (cheap parquet). New tenants - at the same rent - get it. - No dogs allowed with management getting overly worked up over outsiders even walking their dogs within the vicinity of the building. [less]

How about living in no man's land with no convenient access to restaurants, subways, and any street life. It's like living in Queens(shudder). LOL. Isn't that a Con??
It seems somewhat counter intuitive to praise the safety yet complain about the security.
jim_hones10: Security does not have to be intrusive and bureaucratic. The management mindset at Waterside is akin to that of a camp commandant in an army base.
Clearly, the purpose of security there has nothing to do with safety, and everything to do with profitable eviction of rent-regulated tenants.
