Discussion about
I am planning to install this drain in my shower. Question: The channel bottom of this drain is flat (neutral pitch) and the installation said "the water will drain when in the channel and create a siphon until it is drained". Does the above description makes sense? Usually channels are pitched to facilitate drainage.
It's a 1.66"-high trough, with a grate on top, that sits above the drain, with the shower floor built up to its height and sloping to it. The drain can be anywhere along the length, so there's no way to pitch each length of trough toward the drain without screwing up the fitting of the grate on top. The water will mostly drain out of the trough, leaving whatever adheres to the trough to evaporate.
They're sort of slick-looking, but then you have to figure in the extra depth of floor. Soap, hair, and gunk (all the stuff that's down in a regular drain where you can't see it) will need to be cleaned out of the trough.
Hi There-
Don't be afraid. A neutral pitch linear drain definitely works. Just as NWT said, the flexibility of being able to place the outlet anywhere along the channel requires that the channel is 100% level. Basically, water always finds a low point and drains through the outlet. A small amount of residual water will remain in the channel after your shower, but nothing more than would be on your shower floor. This will quickly evaporate. If you purchased one of our models with a wedge wire grate, they are excellent hair, soap, and gunk catchers. Just wipe the top with a washcloth or paper towel when needed. Otherwise use a flat head screwdriver to lift the grate out of the channel. Our TIF (tile insert frame) linear drains come with a metal lift-out key for servicing. If you have any installation questions, don't hesitate to call our office M-F 9am-5pm for tech support. 516-767-6786.
