Discussion about
Hi all, we're looking to switch from window units to through-wall AC units (cooling only). Since we're making new wall penetrations (front and side of the building), I assume we'll still need a DOB permit, even if the machine BTU is below the equipment use permit threshold. Can anyone confirm? Also, what are people's experience with getting this type of work through both DOB and landmarks in terms of amount of time? Thanks in advance!
I am not certain of the DOB laws for wall a/c's. I just sell them..... Email me if you need pricing on units

Check with your building's managing agent to find out what's been done before. E.g., since it's landmarked, the building most likely has a master plan for through-wall AC, so owners don't have to go through the Landmarks Preservation Commission every time.
If you have a master AC plan, it shouldn't be that bad. Maybe 2 months or so. Call Hamilton Air. They installed most of the units in our building and they take care of the whole process, from permits to installation.
