Am replacing old track lights in my loft apartment--a total of 90 feet with about 25 lights. What is a good place to buy them--online (say at westsidewholesale) or at a store? Any other specifics, such as low-voltage versus regular? Who should I get to replace/install? Thanks.
For all lighting needs, I at least start with Lighting By Gregory on the Bowery. Go to the store and talk to them. Talk to your super about recommendations for installation. Or neighbors who have had work done recently. You may need more than one person if you need the ceilings patched/repaired as well as electrical work.
I second Lighting by Gregory. I would also look at Lee's Studio and The lighting Center as well
I have recommended Contractor's Electric on this board before - I thought they did a great job installing our track lighting. http://contractorselectric.com/
The owner (his name is Lenny) recommended we purchase WAC lights and we have been very happy with them. They have tons of different designs that all fit the same track so if you get tired of the lights or heads after a few years, it is easy to swap them out without a large expense or any re-wiring. http://www.waclighting.com/USA/
tech lighting low volatage tracks are great. Many attractive cover options for the bulbs as well.
We recommend our electrician. He recently put new electrical boxes for us and channeled the brick ceilings. Very reasonable prices. Good workmanship. However, he likes to take his time. Wayne 917-334-8583
