My new apartment has fabulous windows. This makes me very happy, but the sun is so bright that I'm worried about fading. Friends in southern California recommend putting filtering film on the windows -- it is supposed to block the harmful rays but otherwise not alter the light. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks.
Would this have been a solution for columbiacounty? He visited an apartment with a window in the shower, and he's never been the same since, even complaining bitterly on streeteasy about the horrible slight.
I had 3M film installed on all of my sout-facing windows shortly after I moved in. The tinting is barely noticeable and the apartment no longer feels like a sauna -- easily a 15 degree difference.
The 3M film is good for that.
brilliant.

brilliant.
Idiot. The whole point of the film is to remove some of the brilliance from the light.
huntersburg: What?!
The sage of Columbia County actually posted that comment?!
are you still pretending? are you kidding? good luck. you continue to threaten me.
I'm searching the 8 comments on this thread and can't find a single threat.
from truth: "We're gonna take him down."
that's a threat.
Right, huntersburg.
"Take you down to Chinatown" is a movie quote from Jack.
cc. doesn't even know that.
Interesting, I just googled it:

and found something interesting, a TV story about vampires. Wooooo

Jul 25, 2011 – We wanted our hero to go down a really dark road, and we're gonna take him down that really dark road for a while. But there'll be levels of bad ...
Nice, huntersburg!
We're taking him down a dark road.
BOO!
not that simple, truthie. your threat is on record.
"I will take you to Chinatown" is a quote from Robert D.
cc. doesn't know that either.
Matt, I would appreciate if you could answera few questions. I have a south-facing window and the light filtering shade covering this window still has small areas where patches of strong sunlight filter through. Does your window tint cut down on the strength of the light filtering through and what type of shade do you have on that window? Also did you install the window tint yourself? Thanks and happy holidays.
Matt--does the tinting also help with fading/sun damage to art and furniture?
Yes, actually that's one of the main benefits of the tinting. The film I had installed filters out 98% of the ultra-violet rays that damage art/furniture/rugs. It also filters out 60% of the infra-red rays that heat up the apartment.
thnx, Matt--we've been considering getting 3M.
Best money I ever spent. And it continues to save me money month after month during air conditioning season ...
Any local companies who do installation of 3M on windows that anyone would recommend?
MetroSolar. They're out on Long Island, but they service the entire area. They did my windows. Very quick, clean, and efficient.
Matt, thank you very much.
You're welcome. Good luck!
