Discussion about
Hi - I have about 15-20 framed pictures that I'd like to hang in my apartment. We have hard-as-a-rock prewar walls (I'm guessing plaster) and it's a rental so I don't want to make a big mess or create a lot of unnecssary holes. Does anybody have any recommendations for a handyman who could come help with the quick installation? Preferably somebody who comes weekends or evenings since wife and I both work. Thanks in advance.
Hanging pictures on plaster walls is not a problem. Just get the OOK picture hangers (they come in packages with suggested weights they can support. I usually assume the worst and use the 10 lb. ones even with very light pictures, and go up from there).
It's not the hanging that will be the problem - it's positioning the pictures the way you want them. That takes some time.
If you use the ook hangers, put a piece of scotch tape on the wall before you hammer in the nails. That avoids cracking and crumbling as you hit it in.
Great Idea Lucid! How about with Venetian Plaster walls, can any picture nail holes be easily fixed?
Thanks guys - wish I had seen the suggestion on the tape - good idea. In any case, I did end up doing it myself and using OOKs and had about 75% first-pass success rate (a couple broken / bent nails - so moved the hole a bit and tried again). In any case, art is up and I'm (slightly) less scared of plaster walls than I used to be.
freebird - congratulations!
I put up a series of framed prints (11 in all) that I hung in perfectly straight, spaced groups and row on a wall. I have no idea how I did it in the first place, and when we paint that room, I am asking the painters to leave all those hooks in place, as I am sure I could never do it again.
