Depends. If you work near 59th/8th or 42dn-44th/8th then living near the 125th A stop is probably faster. Maybe also the 2/3 express at time square.

However, the NRQ to 49th or 42nd could be pretty fast, or the E to 50th or 42nd or even the 7 to times squre. It depends on where in LIC, where in Harlem, and where in HK.

If you ever think you might have to take a cab, however, its definitely less expensive to go to Harlem.

I would say that Hell's Kitchen is closer to LIC, certainly by public transportation. If you are in the 40's then it's just 3 stops on the 7 (5 -7 minutes). If you are in the 50's then it is 4 stops on the E. Even via taxi the difference would be hard to measure ... LIC is right over the 59th street bridge which has no toll ($10 fare). Plus, I've always thought that the crosstown lines are nice because it makes it easier to connect subways. I live in midtown, so I may by partial.

hopstop will give exact times based on 2 address. I live in Harlem and love it.

Harlem. I have lived in both areas and can say not crossing a river has it's merits.
