Discussion about
Thought I would posr a strong recommendation for the only made in Made In USA cutlery from Sherrill New York. We considered Christofle and many other famous brands for high quality stainless steel flatware. Having used Christofle, we were a bit hesitant to order at the prices were one tenth of Christofle ($148 for 45 piece set vs Christofle's $1500 or so). We recently received our order of 90... [more]

Do not forget the steak knives - a steal for $29 for 4.

Fortunoff's on 5th Avenue used to sell a fabulous "copy" of one of the Christofle patterns. "Aria" http://www.christofle.com/us/160-36-piece-set-for-6-people/1825-set-36-pieces-aria. the heavy stainless weight. Bought it for myself, and also bought it as gifts for several people who also loved it(uually did sevice for 12, figuring pieces would get lost). VERY reasonable for the quality. Would love to know who made it because it's a very nice wedding gift.

So sad when Fortunoff's went out of business in Manhattan.

Did you take a look at liberty table top cutlery website? Not many designs but certainly comparable to Christofle at 1/10th of the cost.

Mercer - I bought the stainless steel sets quite a long time ago, because of the design and particularly the weight in the hand, and at the time had no idea that it was a copy of the Christofle. It probably cost something more than the Liberty, but not outrageously more. The Liberty cutlery looks good, but I always have to see how cutlery feels in the hand.

I hear you. These ones feel good. Try ordering a sample. They are virtually giving them away for this quality.

I may do that Mercer. My niece could certainly use some new cutlery.

Mercer - BTW, which pattern did you get? I'm looking at the Lincoln or the Cedarcrest (but that may be because they're a little like the one I have).

These would be for my niece (who definitely could use a new set of flatware).

We went for pearl as we just wanted some thing classic. BTW, this factory used to make all high-end Oneida when they were selling US made stuff. Has a tough time convincing my wife at first because of low prices and poor pictures on the web, but even she approves of the quality and feel. Now we just have buy some nice drawer organizers.
