Discussion about
I was wondering how I would find out the owner of a lot so that I could approach him about selling. Thanks for any answers

I know how to do this. I'm a NY agent, and I often represent buyers in transactions. I'm also trained as a negotiator, which could come in very handy when approaching somebody cold. I also own undeveloped lots out of state, so I'm aware of some benefits and pitfalls. If you're interested in buyer brokerage, shoot me an email at kharby@crrnyc.com.

Assuming it is in NYC, you should be able to look up property records in ACRIS:

http://a836-acris.nyc.gov/Scripts/Coverpage.dll/index

If the owner is an LLC, you can find associated names by either the signature lines in the docs or by looking up the LLC:

http://www.dos.ny.gov/corps/bus_entity_search.html

Sometimes the name will be an actual owner, other times just an attorney who can presumably put you in contact with the lawyer.

Here's a link to property tax information. It complements the ACRIS link posted above by inonada. I usually check both to get the full document history.
