Anyone know how much it costs to add/take out stairs in a duplex apartment?

Material to be used? Design sought? Shape of staircase? Type of building (coop, condo, townhouse, etc)? Any other special conditions? Are other renovations occurring at same time? Age of structure?

I have a duplex condo built in 2005 and was quoted about $8,500 replacement cost by my insurance company and I have no clue how accurate that is. As Kylewest stated, there are a great many variables that can affect the cost of adding/removing stairs.
