building at 11 East 68th Street

Any updates on the progress of this conversion?

This is a big deal for this location. New owners doing major renovation that will probably take another 2 years or so. Belstaff a new trendy British clothing store just openned on the Madison Ave side.

The entire building is gutted. It looks like penthouses are being added and where the front courtyard is I think that there will be a new entrance and foyer.

It was one of the original grand mansions in the city. The Marquand after Henry Gurdon Marquand whose private mansion, the neighborhood has always been the destination of choice for the world’s wealthiest families; Rockefellers, Carnegies, Roosevelts and Whitneys lived nearby. The first block between Fifth and Madison from about 60 to 80 if not already will soon be out of reach for all but the 0.01%. The old saying is the total of street number plus building number must be <100, truer now than ever.

In September the building was partly condo'd, into a commercial unit, a professional unit, and a residential unit. Later on there'll be an offering plan for the residential unit, and it'll be split into however many apartment units.

There was a story in The Real Deal about how Vornado and HFZ(?) were divvying up the three chunks.

I've never heard this one; interesting.

I suppose the patricians would blanch at the thought of living in a building in an area I was researching for which that total is a massive 1061:
