I went with an attorney recommended by the HR department in my company. He turns out to be terrible: two weeks after the offer, I still have not seen the contract and cannot get in touch with him for long stretches at a time.
More than that, it seems that he is negotiating on my behalf, even though I have not yet had the chance to see let alone discuss the contract. The seller's agent is freaking out, because some of the suggested amendments to the contract are way out of left field.
To make a long story short: we need someone reliable to step in and take control of this situation fast. Preferably someone who can work this weekend, and someone who could finish this deal in a matter of a few days (we've now received an ultimatum form the sponsor). Any help would be appreciated, a referral or even just general advice on how to handle such things.

Obviously this purchase is important to you. But an ultimatum from the sponsor ... have you tried playing their game, up a level, and using your 'crazy' attorney to your advantage? What else is the sponsor going to do with this apartment? - are you really that much below market that you risk a losing the place?

They are probably bluffing in terms of the ultimatum, you are right. It's just frustrating to be out of the loop.

Understand. Get in the loop. Consider using the crazy attorney to twist that loop a bit to the extent you might end up with a deal better than you might expect with an attorney trained to work by the "rules".
