Discussion about
Hello. Recent pipe break in neighboring apt. Water through adjoining wall. Now "funny" smell in my adjoining room. Worried about mold. How to test and by whom and at what cost?

If you smell it or see it, there is mold. Paying someone to test is a waste of money. You need to find a reputable remediation company to remove the mold. Testing companies are mostly scams and rip-offs, many will say the do remediation, but they largely just scrub it with some store bought mold killer.

You can google mold remediation. However, there are 3-4 companies that had 15-20+ sites that are all SEOed and come up saying the same thing.

M&M Environmental did mine. I am not an expert on this topic, but M&M tested mold found during a partially underway gut. Cost to test was ~$300, remediation would have been additional. Good luck.

If you see black porous stains on the wall its usually a sign of mold. If not get a stain sealer such as Killz and that should do the trick.

JLC Environmental did environmental testing in our last apartment and did a great job. They were very professional and timely. Also, they explained all the tests and results in a clear, concise way that was very helpful to us. (http://jlcenvironmental.com/)
