Discussion about
Does anyone know this area? I am looking at coops in 330-340 Haven and 860 and 854 West 181st Street? It is a safe area by the water?
This is arguably one of the nicest parts of Washington Heights. It's actually safer these days than many areas Downtown.
You can't go wrong.
I'm in the west 150s and it's very safe. Not sure there is is truly unsafe area in Manhattan these days. Liek Matt said, I really doubt you can go wrong.
Hudson Heights is very safe. Good neighborhood, lived there for 2 years
What eliz said.
But the 180s west of Broadway are about as "premium" as you can get north of 96th Street.
On the particular blocks you describe, there is a fair amount of traffic to/from the GWB and Henry Hudson Parkway ramps, and slightly heightened air and noise pollution due to proximity to GWB/I-95. And there's walk up the 181st St hill. But on the whole it's a great spot, nice balance of affordability, proximity to midtown, green space, etc., and while safety can't be taken for granted it's generally not a big issue.
Thank you to everyone for the helpful comments
Those buildings tend to have noisy residents who blare their music and get into loud yelling matches. Proceed at your own risk.
