Ungrounded plugs

Hi all - I was looking at a prewar apartment that hadn't been upgraded for a while and noticed that all of the outlets in the place were ungrounded. How much, roughly speaking, should I assume this costs to change them to make them grounded? Is this a simple, relatively painless / costless exercise, or is it something I shold expect can turn into a huge black hole of money out the door? I have... [more]

Hi all - I was looking at a prewar apartment that hadn't been upgraded for a while and noticed that all of the outlets in the place were ungrounded. How much, roughly speaking, should I assume this costs to change them to make them grounded? Is this a simple, relatively painless / costless exercise, or is it something I shold expect can turn into a huge black hole of money out the door? I have little experience with this sort of thing, but from what I gather electrical work can become... difficult. One thing to add: there aren't an overwhelming number of outlets in the place anyway so if I were to buy it I'd probably want to add a couple no matter what (although maybe surge protectors could do the trick, hard to tell). So I assume there is likely some electrical cost anyway and the grounding would be incremental to that rather than an entirely new expense. Thanks a lot in advance... [less]
