small kitchen needs design help!!!

I just purchased my very first apt in a brownstone. I love the apt, but the kitchen is in need of an update. There are some obstacles... The kitchen is a gally kitchen. At the end where the fridge is located, there is a support beam that prohibits the refrigerator door from opening fully. I think there may be ways around this problem. Basically,I need a contractor who is excellent at designing gally kitchens which are lacking in space. Can anyone make a recommendation? Im looking to basically gut this kitchen asap. Thanks for everyone's help.

There are fridge with double door..so your diameter is smaller when you open it

It has to be seen, but that still wouldnt work. I need a contractor who can help me with it.

The two words "support" and "beam" when found together, if accurate, suggest that you choose your contractor with utmost care.

Move the fridge. Or put the door hinge on the other side.

You may be able to find a refrigerator that is not as tall as the one you currently have. You could also go with under cabinet refrigerators/freezer and regain lost cabinet storage space by putting more cabinets where the refrigerator used to be. IantheWHHM,

The support beam is running vertically, correct? It isn't the height of the fridge thats giving you a problem, right?
