Love it. They've photo-shopped a roaring fire in a decorative fireplace in this Elliman listing. http://streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/671946-coop-305-west-86th-street-upper-west-side-new-york?email=true Just entered contract--hope the new buyers aren't expecting to toast marshmallows in that thing...
Well, you can add to that the picture of what I believe are the Metro North & Triborough bridges (you know...in the EAST river?!?) featured in the video clip.
Great demonstration of geographic knowledge & / or quality control.
Truly scary; it's not the marshmallow that's toasted.
Looks like a legit gas fireplace in the non-photo-shopped picture. It may actually be real.

Because the buyers likely never even visited the place before they wired the money.

Not according to the Elliman listing (check the website) which clearly describes the fireplace as 'decorative'. That crackling fire, along with the furniture, are all photoshopped in.
OMG, walpurgis, I hadn't even looked at the video--oh what a GEM!. "Steps to Riverside Park" except--whoops! some idiot either doesn't know the East River from the Hudson or assumes buyers are too dumb to notice... Wow. Just wow.
It started out as a gas fireplace, as uwsbeagle said. There's a valve off to the left and the gas pipe inside. There're no flues on the roof, though, and ventless gas fireplaces are no longer allowed in NYC. That gas line would've been shut off in the cellar.
NWT--precisely. That thing has been defunct for years, if not decades.
