My friend rented it with 2 months free, which brings 1bed down to 4-4.5K with fantastic views.

I looked here when I was looking for a place like 8 months ago. I left thinking the same thing..who is renting here?! The apartments are small, finishes cheap, and very expensive for the area. I guess a view is not worth $2k a month for me....

Oh but it's not just the view! It's the bragging rights for living in a Gehry building!

NYCMatt, posting at 4:53am? I hope someone is compensating you double triple penalty overtime for your body clock. You really shouldn't be up that early.

Yes, agree. I looked at the buildings a couple of weeks ago - the apartments are tiny, and there is no closet space. They were mentioning two free months with a 2-year lease, but said the deal was running out that weekend (of course.) Even then, it did not make sense. The facilities are gorgeous, but the apartments are not worth the price IMO.

But you get the bragging rights that you rent there. How much are bragging rights worth these days?

JButton - proves I've done my homework. Check the list of the rent-controlled buildings I posted there, and 80% of them are better than 105 Duane. Gehry was not a great value. Anything else you'd like to know?

Oh, and that's who Related is probably measuring themselves against - they shouldn't. Their building and facilities are worn out, and there are no bragging rights to live there. At a right price, it is a fine place, but 105 Duane ain't Gehry, and shouldn't strive for the same rents.
