building at 420 East 55th Street

Law "suites" outthe ass.

I rented there for several years, and it was a decent place to live. More specifically, the maintenance used to be comparatively low, and I was told that the underlying mortgage was small. I looked to buy a sponsor unit in the building, but the sponsor wanted way over market for the unit, so I moved on...

If there was an obvious negative, it was the level of sponsor involvement. Lots of unsold units, which were all rentals (I lived in a studio and a 1 bedroom which were both sponsor units...)

Does anyone know why the monthly maintenance is so high in this building? Are there any known issues with the building?
