Discussion about
Is it just me, or is this board dying? Ever since they moved the link off the front page... it 'aint easy to find this place. Or is this what capitulation sounds like? ;-)
Boring market + nasty trolls is a bad combo for interesting discussions
Every time you go somewhere else for a while you come back on here and ask that question, somewhereelse.
It must be easier to find than you think, look at all the 20-something first-time-buyers on se discussions.
a lot of people use SE...not as many post.
ever since W67 and ino got laughed off the board it's been quiet.
Aboutready's purchase in Brooklyn threw her off the imminent-doom predictions, and Riversider's cut way back. Those alone accounted for a lot of volume.
You bored by the board somewhereelse?
Here's a (non-RE) story that you, being mid-middle age and a music fan will like:
When Levon was in the hospital Robbie called to say he wanted to visit. They were estranged since 1976 and Robbie gets the Band royalties for songs Levon wrote. The thing about deathbed reunions is that the visitor must be invited by the dying person. Robbie just invited himself.
It wasn't like a scene out of Love Story. Levon received Robbie with dignity. Robbie returned the favor by going on his facebook page and writing about the deathbed reunion. Then a few days after when Levon passed away a rumor circulated that Robbie was paying off Levon's debts.
That's what it looked like Robbie was there to do: make ammends with Levon. But that's not what actually happened.
So Truth let that rumor circulate for a few weeks. Then Cindy Adams called to confirm.
Yesterday she quoted me in her column and that rumor was straightened out.
The most famous estrangement in rock music history almost had a false happy ending until Truth told the truth.
That wasn't a story about the board dying. It was a story about Levon dying.
To lively this thread up.
Stevejhx is not here to keep somewhere else's BS in check.
I don't know where stevejhx is.
I didn't know ar purchased in Brooklyn. She wrote a comment once stating that Brooklyn is not for her.
JButton may be getting updates on the location of w67th and ino from his fellow button, Belly.
I'd been checking ACRIS every few months, after something about Harlem was mentioned here. Their Brooklyn purchase turned up in March. No idea whether to live in or rent out.
Harlem? ar in Harlem! They could call a reality show about that: "arlem".
thanks for the heads-up on that, NWT. I wonder if seeing loftydreams' place sold them on the 'hood.
NWT,
You proved a point. Deep down most people would prefer to own, but don't on account of circumstances. Some or just more honest about it than others.
Dateline: arlem
A day in May.
Our reporter, JButton is on the scene with his associate, Belly.
Pictures at 11 of ar at loftydreams' pajamahouseparty.
I miss the old crowd, I miss the banter, I don't miss the troll activity.
On SE, the trolls won.
Got tired of the trolls and right-wing politics.
Do any of the boards have age restrictions? Do they try to maintain a diversity of long-timers and relative newcomers?
"on se the trolls won."
somebody give him a hanky and remind him how to e-mail his old crowd for some quality banter.
Probably a combo of market having been relatively boring (until recently it seems anyway), lots of old time posters growing tired of the board (and the same old conversations), and the trolling that never quite went away. Maybe there'll be a minor upswing given the sharp increase in pending sales this year (and flat inventory to go with it).

I picked up a couple of clients from here and then got involved in fundraising for the election, so I haven't been around as much lately -- but my take on this board the past couple of years has been that the activity fluctuates, but we all eventually come crawling back. Do we want to try as a group for another meet-up? The ones Dawn organized three years ago were pretty fun.

>Do we want to try as a group for another meet-up? The ones Dawn organized three years ago were pretty fun.
I'm in.
If huntersburg is in, I can't possibly miss it.
bjw: here's a hint:
if you want to shake a troll off your trail, se will put you in the grey zone and then they can delay your comment posting time.
that's not going to help stop the same old conversations of which you are now partaking.
I'd very much like to meet up in "meat space" with board posters! Having been a member of other discussion groups, I find that meeting people face-to-face always makes things better, more interesting, and fun.
I've been thinking for awhile about emailing front_porch off-board, as I know she is connected.
Ali, may I do that?
oh,lucy. This is not like your other discussion groups.
The meeting up thing was done on an official level by se and they fed and watered the posters up. Not a great idea. That's why they don't have those anymore.
bjw has never contributed anything insightful to SE.
Lucy, of course. I'd be happy to chat.
ali: "Isle be happy to chat."
hburg has never contributed anything clever or insightful to any website, conversation, community, news publication, collaborative art project, competitive sporting event, musical number, or dramatic interpretation. Except for his brief shining moment as a Teton All-Star: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6g_GVJF9l1k
Just poking my head in to say hi to some old friends. Hope you're all doing well.
wheres spunky?
Hi tenemental! Hope the east village is treating you well. Speaking of which, where's evillager? Still love that name.
"Deep down most people would prefer to own, but don't on account of circumstances."
Yes... the old wives tales get most people...
Seriously doubt you have a wife, even an old one.
R.E. is not the sizzling issue it use to be, while brownstoner and curbed are boring. somewhereelse, Truth, and huntersburg, I miss you all!
R.E. is not the sizzling issue it use to be,
True Dat
Hey mutombo: how's it going?
>True Dat
I fire people for talking like idiots.
Most recently I put someone on the list for saying 'agreeance'.
Good point, except this is not a place of business.
i fire people for talking like idiots?
when?
Cunty is back. The discourse will suffer badly because of it,
who did you fire?
why?
Hi columbiacounty. Were you fired, stripped of your partnership, or your firm was indicted based on your gross negligence?
you've watched too many movies.
get back to me when you approach reality.
never.
what was worse, the indictment, or your colleague's silent treatment directed at you?
which was worse...your sex change operation or your nose job?
Which sex do you believe I am post-operation?
i'm wondering more about where your nose ended up.
So you are sure I had a sex change operation, but you have no idea what sex I am or was before?
That's kind of curious.
but...what makes you think that anyone gives a fuck?
make up your mind, do you or do you not give a fuck? In the past several posts, you indicated you did. Now you don't?
work on reading comprehension. i asked you which was worse--your nose job or your sex change. i don't give a fuck if you're a man or a woman.
as I suspected, you'd be among the people I'd fire.
So congratulations on being in the same club as Riversider.
is that an answer to the question about your nose?
Which post? I posted twice. Please clarify your question.
oh no....
you broke the rule.
Uh oh.
Truth,
I'm good and yourself?
uh oh mutombo, be careful you don't break one of the rules of columbiacounty.
h'burg,
foolumbia who?
Case in point. Cc should be permenantly banned
The link to the Talk section could certainly be more prominent; as it is, only people who are actively looking for it, or spend a lot of time on SE exploring nooks and crannies, will find it. I myself have only recently discovered that you can see lists of all the units in a given building, lists of past sales, and all kinds of other things. This is a great site and I hope it only keeps getting more popular
"Aboutready's purchase in Brooklyn threw her off the imminent-doom predictions"
Are you serious? After all these years, she finally gave in.
When did she say she bought in Brooklyn?
She didn't say. Awhile back she'd mentioned here that she was looking in Harlem, so I'd been checking ACRIS once in a while. The Brooklyn condo turned up in March.
Williamsburg?
Tough commute for the daughter to school on the UES
Can we agree not to talk about this further?
Brooklyn Heights - easier commute
The Board is Dead. Long Live the Board.
Can we agree not to talk about this further?
Yes. It seems like a violation of privacy of someone who has chosen not to post here anymore. And, btw, a very valuable poster who helped guide many on SE through the decline in the market.
valuable poster or valued poster?
Remember, privacy, we shouldn't be discussing how much wealth she has.
apt23, 100% agree
falco, you are acluistic
What violation of privacy? It's not as if I posted the address. Anyone who knows her name can go look up the purchase.
As an aside, if she didn't want her name known to anyone who could spend five minutes with a standard legal reference, she could've not dropped so many beads.
NWT: Not you specifically, I value your research. But just in general, because the troll who stalked her is still on this board and because she is not posting to defend her choices, I think it might be right to give it a rest. However, i reserve the right to call on you for any ACRIS research in the future cause you are amazing.
aboutready purchased liquor in Brooklyn?
h'burg, give me your facebook page?
NWT, that is poor form. Let people post their own info themselves. How would you like it if people posted personal info about you based on what they had gleaned from SE, putting their own arbitrary boundaries around how much info is OK to post and what dropped beads justify it?
We have different ideas of what's "personal info". Given AR's former visibility here and on brickunderground, her choosing to buy was news.
Had I given her name, the address, the neighborhood, or anything else personally-identifiable, then she and you would be right to squawk.
Back to the original nature of this thread. We may have varying opinions on the quality of the content. But I know from my own experience that there are many "lurkers" who garner information here, love the boards but just don't post.

"Given AR's former visibility here and on brickunderground, her choosing to buy was news."
Exactly, and wouldn't it have been interesting, and possibly "informative", and braver, if she posted on SE what finally got her to buy? And would W67 have mocked her for it?
NWT, it's not AR who is squawking. Just me and a number of your online buddies politely suggesting a simple line not to cross: let people post their own info themselves. I know the identities of many people here & vice-versa, including a few of my favorite online frenemies. Not once have I (or they) brought any of the other side's outside info into the discussion, even though it might be relevant "news". Nor much of anyone else for that matter, except maybe ph41's posting of Truth's apt. That was extremely poor form.
Granted, I have called out a couple of fraudsters that have shown up here. But when a criminal convicted on felony fraud shows up here pumping something, I figure that's a good reason to cross the line. But not for "news" aka "gossip".
If you don't know AR's real name then all you know its that she lives in Brooklyn. If you do know her name then you can do your own ACRIS search.
What line was crossed?
apt23 went out off her way to mock a buyer by name whenshe didn't like the purchase price he paid for a place in Lincoln Center.Shall I find the link?
Thanks, inonada.
ph41 wishes we would forget.

"And, btw, a very valuable poster who helped guide many on SE through the decline in the market. "
Help guided them to making BAD financial decisions? Dude, she essentially was pounding on the table to not buy in Spring 2009 when it was the BEST TIME. Prices in NYC have gone up since...
The lady is clueless.
I'm still waiting for my SUB 500 psf in (new development) Hunter's point LIC.
WHERE IS IT???
"Exactly, and wouldn't it have been interesting, and possibly "informative", and braver, if she posted on SE what finally got her to buy? And would W67 have mocked her for it?"
So, was she simply talking down the market to benefit herself? Yes.
She was here mocking at people in Spring of 2009 for buying, i really want to see her rational for buying.
I can volunteer to answer for her.
"i effed up. i was wrong. ericho75 was right. nyc housing did bottom in 2009. i couldn't see the green shoot. sorry people."
here's a recent close in LIC at 449 $ psf:
http://streeteasy.com/nyc/sale/530756-condo-5009-2nd-street-hunters-point-long-island-city

aint no bounce in LIC--best luck to anyone needing to sell out there--not sure what you mean by "right"
yikes, is that a listing for a sale that closed in 2010?
bottom has not been set yet.. just wait.
LIC ppsf now is around $750. The haters here continue sounding stupid.
About ready was a terrible poster- bad advice, obnoxious, and disrespectful. And now shown to be a hypocrite.
Well, in fairness to Aboutready, she did say she was seeking to buy, even if she mentioned a different neighborhood then that where she apparently bought. Personally I'm surprised it was Brooklyn because from there she can't walk her husband to work to make sure he's earning his keep. She also made her statement about buying on streeteasy, and make sure that w67thstreet was aware that she ran the numbers and they worked for her. Now, I have no idea if she still owns half of her husband.
I also noticed that, speaking of the board dying, that the board is not just powered by donuts or creme brule, but is powered by whisky. And not everyone is a good drinker.
"However, i reserve the right to call on you for any ACRIS research in the future cause you are amazing."
apt23, it's not that hard to figure your way around it yourself. Worth giving it a shot.
"Granted, I have called out a couple of fraudsters that have shown up here. But when a criminal convicted on felony fraud shows up here pumping something, I figure that's a good reason to cross the line."
Yikes, nada, what did I miss?
He did it twice I saw, once for a RE broker who had some medicare fraud in a prior life, and once for someone who was part of a team fined by the SEC for some activities I don't remember specifically. I'm not sure the latter was doing anything here other than reflecting his happiness with his ownership.
bjw, this is one though some posts seem to have been removed:
http://streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/30636-anna-anisimova-sells-50-million-ph
This is the other one, again with most relevant posts removed:
http://streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/30495-buy-vs-rent-dilemma
The first one was shilling RE as an investment quite explicitly on here, and brokers here claim that her criminal background should have excluded her from holding a brokerage license though she seems to have one. She was involved in insurance fraud.
The second was spreading FUD and mis-information on here with no backing. He was involved in illegal trading activities whereby fake orders would be put out to invoke others to trade.
