Discussion about
Does anyone know? Does removing a non-structural wall require department of buildings approval? The wall does have plugs and cable in it, so it does have some electricity. I'm told these will need to be rewired and this is why I may need to submit formal plans to the DOB?

Miles,

It is up to your management co. Most will not require a permit for that. They will want a licensed electrician to do all the electrical

If in a coop, your Board may require you to file with the DOB with architectural drawings by a licensed architect to be reviewed by the building architect.

Even if the DOB does not require a filing permit.

And you will be lucky to get a specific reason as to why. The building architect, after reviewing your proposal, will just state that "Filing with the Department of Buildings is required."

Whenever a wall is involved, it seems some Boards and building architects will just require a permit regardless of the specific circumstances.
