Discussion about
Been trying for weeks now to get someone for a repair on the wood floor in my Manhattan apartment. I did a bunch of internet cruising, and called about ten places that I've seen recommended - but no luck so far. The bulk of these guys - especially what I'm guessing are the smaller operations like Harmon and Patterson - are completely lax about returning calls. A couple I'm avoiding due to mixed reviews, like Verrazano. A couple I've had in for estimates, but they're either not very good at explaining what they plan to do, or else obviously have no intention of doing a thorough job. A couple are just too expensive. Any new ideas? I can't believe this is so hard. You'd think in this economy, these guys would be tripping over each other in their rush to return calls.
Nida,
Can you be more specific about your scope of work? What is the damage? How much SF? Are you planning on re-sanding and staining the complete apartment?
E-mail me direct and I will help you; stephen@capitalcraftsmen.com
I'm in the process of hiring these guys. http://www.yelp.com/biz/elite-floor-service-inc-yonkers. Maybe you can have them come give you a quote. Located in yonkers but they do work in the city as well.
Try calling Rosie at Fernandez Floors. Her number is 917) 709-7451. She usually answers but if not, just leave a message and keep trying her back. They do tons of work in our building and are extremely reasonably priced.
Nida,

If they can't help you no one can!
Thanks, guys. The repair is patch by a radiator, maybe about ten boards' worth, maybe 2'x 5'. And I should have added that I'm looking for something affordable. Divine Moving, it's a good sign if someone is listed with Franklin, but they way they're described, they sound very expensive. Thanks, Junky, but I'm looking for a guy that's already been vetted, not just someone you're thinking of using. Primer, no offense, but to me the point of an online board is to share information publicly (so that others can search as I did), not to telephone. Thanks, Angel, I'll try calling Fernandez.
Nida, curious to know whom you ended up going with. Did you select someone yet?
