Discussion about
Hi all, Have a friend who wants to move to Prospect Heights and has asked me for advice? I don't know what a Prospect Height is so appreciate any advice pertaining to: A)commute to Times Square B) How long it will take him to get beaten up c) proximity of good restaurants and bars (good = not wanky) d) anything else he should know before signing a lease Thanks! Thanks!
Another Canadian comedian.
Not funny.
It a terrific neighborhood. About 30 minuted to times square.
Good restaurants in nearby Park Slope, Clinton Hill and not far to a great bar/restaurant scene in Carol Gardens. Access to Prospect Park with a great farmers market at the grand army entrance. This was once a hidden jewel for substantial discounts versus surrounding nabes.

when the sun goes down, it still shows its old self on some blocks. my advise would be to find something he/she likes and then come there around 11 pm/midnight and see if it is ok by them to live there.
"Carroll Gardens".
"It a terrific neighborhood."
It is NOT.
It is a formerly BAD neighborhood that at best has become marginal thanks to new residents who've been priced out of Park Slope.
I lived nearby for many years in the formerly "BAD" Fort Green. You may find this article from the NYT helpful.

I need an edit button! "Greene"
Reposting a NYT fluff piece that's essentially a regurgitated press release from the Fort Greene Association doesn't exactly strengthen your argument ...
Yet again - living in the past with blinders on. Prospect Heights is a vibrant, safe and very livable neighborhood. People are now moving south and east into Crown Heights because they are being priced out of Prospect Heights. Matt- have a meal on Vanderbilt, grab a bagel at Bergen Bagel, walk through Grand Army Plaza into the most magnificent park in NYC....then get back to us.
I agree with you on Prospect Park being the "most magnificent" in NYC. I'll stick with the SAFE side, though, thanks.
Thanks all - sounds pretty good, and I am sure he'll be glad to hear about the overall positive feedback. He is clearly under no illusions about the warts.
Agreed with the positive posts above. Prospect Heights is a great neighborhood, with good transportation options (takes me 30 minutes to get to Times Sq on the Q). I wouldn't say its anywhere near Carroll Gardens though, for entertainment options, and frankly i tend to go to Prospect Heights for bars/restaurants (i'm in North Slope, 5 min walk to Vanderbilt) vs going to 5th ave in the Slope. Going to Carroll Gardens would never even cross my mind, its so far. Ft Greene and all its transportation and entertainment options are a walk away as well, which is great.
As for safety, as a female i've never had any problems walking home by myself at night. Yes, there are a handful of blocks that still clearly have rent controlled buildings, and people will set up shop outside on the sidewalk to play cards or dominos, but i've never exchanged words with anyone or even gotten a nasty look.
I had a car when I lived in Brooklyn, I forget not everyone does. So we would pop over to Smith Street at the drop of a dime. Your point is well taken mh330.
>Yes, there are a handful of blocks that still clearly have rent controlled buildings,
?
you walk fast if youre getting from no slope to venderbilt prospect height in 5 mins...really fast
come to think of it, you should try out for the olympics---youre walking sub 4 minute miles--think of your time if you were running!!
bring home the gold!!
