Discussion about
could it really be true? "The government has recouped a total of $197.4 billion from the company. That's all of the $182.3 billion initially invested, as well as a profit of $15.1 billion." http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20120914/FINANCE/120919928#utm_source=Daily%20Alert&utm_medium=alert-text&utm_campaign=Newsletters Of course, anybody buying almost anything at crash prices made out, especially with the act of buying put the company back onto solid ground.

So to sum up, AIG made money for the taxpayer, except for the $25 billion that the taxpayer forfeited due to actions of Treasury which may or may not have been unauthorized by Congress, and in any event amounted to an enormous subsidy to AIG beyond the original bailouts.

And how much was lost on all the others?

15 billion is only 38% what the Fed has committed to buy each month. Are people that stupid to think they got a good deal?

Only those people who have an economic interest in seeing the current system continue. But they are merely paying lip service to it.

Apparently we made money on the AIG deal that we will never see but it won't make a difference because the GM deal was a huge loss. In the end the two should even out maybe a little gain since the AIG investment was much greater/profitable than the GM bailout.
